(via ‘Footloose’ Trailer and Poster: In Which a Small Town is Populated by Pro Dancers | /Film)
Well, there you have it. I love dance movies. Probably a lot more than the average citizen, but, geez Louise, this looks fairly awful. That’s not to say I won’t go see it because I probably will and I might enjoy it, but it has a myriad of problems to overcome. First, the male lead. Who is this Kenny Wormald guy? Based on information obtained from imdb about half of his work as an actor he has been credited as “dancer”. I can understand the need to hire someone with experience as a dancer for a film like Footloose, but you also have to consider other components like acting and charisma. I don’t see that coming across with this guy (I wanna say “dicknose”. Let’s call him “dicknose”). Of course, it may be there it’s just not coming across in this particular trailer. They could have gotten anyone for the part. The leading man in Step Up 3D had a double and heck NatPo wasn’t a pro before Black Swan. If they really needed a dancer, get Moose from Step Up. Mike Chang from Glee. I could live with that. I don’t know maybe I’m still bitter because Chace Crawford dropped out. Another complaint is his accent. It conjures up bad memories of the accents from The Town. I’ve been trying my to put those behind me for the better part of a year. Who knows dicknose could be the next Gene Hackman, but I just can’t say I’m impressed yet. My second issue, Julianne Hough. I don’t think I saw her in Burlesque enough to endorse her in a starring role. I think she was pregnant (or engaged?) in Burlesque and popped up for like two minutes. I’m wondering if Footloose even needs a remake. The original had Chris Penn. Furthermore, I think in the 80s standing up to the man to legalize dancing seems like a rad idea but nowadays I suppose it could be considered a little too trivial and absurd. I don’t know…I guess if there’s a good sex scene it might be good.
